The Red Dot Arms How to Defend against a Knife Attack and use a Knife for Self-Defense class is designed to learn how to deal with common attacks through avoidance, de-escalation, and if necessary simple defensive tactics
Full Description: Knives are one of the most difficult weapons to defend against – they don’t require any special skill to use, never jam or run out of ammo, and can cause serious damage from many angles in a matter of seconds.
This 2 hour class will give students some basic tools to use if confronted by an attacker with a knife. The best defense against a knife is creating distance by running, however, if you can’t run, then you will need to fight. The class will focus on static knife threats such as: knife threat from the front, knife to the throat from the front and behind, knife to the back, as well as covering the key concepts for dealing with a slash and stab. Students will learn and practice just a few simple hand strikes.
In addition, the class will also discuss knife grip and orientation, how to draw your own knife while under attack, a good defensive stance, the best targets for stopping your attacker, and practice of one main technique that works well against the most common knife attacks.
The class will include a discussion of situational awareness, avoidance, de-escalating a confrontation, and using the minimum amount of force necessary to stop an attack. The instructor will provide alternative techniques for individual students with physical limitations. In addition, the instructor will address the basic use of force laws in Illinois.
We need a minimum of 4 students for the class to take place.
