NRA-NMLRA Basic Muzzleloading is designed to teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the safe use of a Muzzleloading guns.

Full Description: This class is an NRA/NMLRA Certified Basic Muzzleloading Pistol /Rifle Class/Shotgun. Students will learn the basic fundamentals of handling Black Powder as well as the safe handling and use of Muzzleloading Pistols/Rifles to include Flintlock and Caplock. The session will consist of classroom and range time- (hands on shooting). All guns, powder and equipment will be provided. You may bring your own firearm if you prefer. Classes are limited to 10 students.

  • Wrap-around Eye Protection ***Normal wear glasses will not be proper protection. Shatter proof lenses are mandatory***

  • Tight necked t-shirt (prevents 2nd degree burns from the brass)
  • Knee Pads
  • Long sleeve shirt regardless of the temperature (prevents 2nd degree burns from the brass)

Do I need a F.O.I.D Card?

No, Red Dot Arms Training Academy does not require a F.O.I.D card to attend. Illinois residents should apply for their F.O.I.D. if they are planning to purchase, possess or transport their own firearms.

Are the firearms provided?

Yes, firearms of each type will be available.

Can I bring my own firearm?

For safety reason, only the class firearms will be allowed to be shot.

Are prescription eyeglasses acceptable for safety?

Not in the rifle class. Due to higher case pressures, safety glasses will be required. There are safety glasses that will fit over your prescription glasses.

FOID Statement: Illinois residents that will be TRANSPORTING their own firearm to and from the class/range must be in possession of a valid FOID/CCL card, and be of legal age, 21 for handguns, and 18 for long guns.  A FOID card is not required to participate in the class. Out of state residents need to follow the age requirements and have a valid ID.
