The Red Dot Arms How to Defend against a Handgun Threat class is designed to learn how to deal with common attacks through avoidance, de-escalation, and if necessary simple defensive tactics
Full Description: Defending against a loaded firearm is never recommended, unless there are no other options. If confronted by an attacker give up your property to save your life; however, if the assailant wants more than your property, wants to hurt you, or take you to another location, then you have to fight back.
This 1.5 hour class will teach students some simple ways to redirect and control a firearm that is within reach, either from the front, back or side. You will learn how and where to strike your attacker, while controlling the firearm, and along with a few weapon disarms. Students will learn how to properly strike an attacker with a handgun (to avoid accidentally shooting themselves or a loved one), as well as what to do with the firearm once you have disarmed the attacker.
In addition, the class will also teach some basic handgun retention techniques, for dealing with an attacker who is trying to disarm you. If there is enough interest from students, some long gun defensive techniques may be covered.
The class will include a discussion of situational awareness, avoidance, de-escalating a confrontation, and using the minimum amount of force necessary to stop an attack. The instructor will provide alternative techniques for individual students with physical limitations. In addition, the instructor will address the basic use of force laws in Illinois.
We need a minimum of 4 students for the class to take place.
