Red Dot Arms Illinois Concealed Carry Renewal Class is designed to meet the legal requirements for the renewal of the concealed carry permit in Illinois.

Full Description: During the Illinois Concealed Carry Renewal class, students will review information necessary to renew his/her Illinois concealed carry permit. This class will consist of both classroom instruction and a shooting qualification consisting of 30 rounds. Per the Illinois State Police, instruction in this class will focus on the following:
  • All applicable state and federal laws relating to the ownership, storage, carry and transportation of a firearm
  • How to interact with law enforcement when transporting or carrying a firearm
  • Reminder of where you can and cannot carry a firearm
  • F.O.I.D. Act
  • Unlawful use of weapons
  • Use of force in defense of a person, dwelling or other property
  • Definition of dwelling, aggressor and forcible entry

Illinois Concealed Carry Renewal Qualification

A shooting qualification is necessary in order to renew your Illinois concealed carry permit.  Per Illinois State Police, the live fire qualification with a concealable firearm consists of a minimum of 30 rounds which must include

  • 10 rounds from a distance of 5 yards
  • 10 rounds from a distance of 7 yards
  • 10 rounds from a distance of 10 yards at

The target used will be the B-27 silhouette. Once class is completed, students should only submit their renewal application with renewal certificate upon receipt of  permit expiration from the Illinois State Police. The Illinois Concealed Carry permit is valid for 5 years and is currently accepted in 27 states.

Illinois Concealed Carry Renewal Fees

The Illinois Concealed Carry Permit is $150.00 plus a $3.53 credit card surcharge for a total of $153.53.

(430 ILCS 66/60) Sec. 60. Fees

(a) All fees collected under this Act shall be deposited as provided in this Section. Application, renewal, and replacement fees shall be non-refundable.
    (b) An applicant for a new license or a renewal shall submit $150 with the application, of which $120 shall be apportioned to the State Police Firearm Services Fund, $20 shall be apportioned to the Mental Health Reporting Fund, and $10 shall be apportioned to the State Crime Laboratory Fund.
    (c) A non-resident applicant for a new license or renewal shall submit $300 with the application, of which $250 shall be apportioned to the State Police Firearm Services Fund, $40 shall be apportioned to the Mental Health Reporting Fund, and $10 shall be apportioned to the State Crime Laboratory Fund.
    (d) A licensee requesting a new license in accordance with Section 55 shall submit $75, of which $60 shall be apportioned to the State Police Firearm Services Fund, $5 shall be apportioned to the Mental Health Reporting Fund, and $10 shall be apportioned to the State Crime Laboratory Fund.

Illinois Concealed Carry Renewal Application

  • Applications are done during normal business hours.

What is needed to do a CCL Renewal Permit application?:

      • A certificate signed by the instructor showing completion of the training.
      • A valid FOID card and Driver’s License or State ID
      • ID photo
      • Documents are scanned to be transmitted to the ISP.

Illinois Concealed Carry Renewal Statute

 (430 ILCS 66/50) 
    Sec. 50. License renewal. Applications for renewal of a license shall be made to the Department. A license shall be renewed for a period of 5 years upon receipt of a completed renewal application, completion of 3 hours of training required under Section 75 of this Act, payment of the applicable renewal fee, and completion of an investigation under Section 35 of this Act. The renewal application shall contain the information required in Section 30 of this Act, except that the applicant need not resubmit a full set of fingerprints.

Where does this class take place?

Classroom instruction takes place at Red Dot Arms. The shooting portion takes place at an outdoor range 10-15 mins  north of Red Dot Arms.

Do we bring our own firearms?

Yes, rentals are not available for this class. You will need your firearm for classroom instruction. Please leave ammo in the car.

Can I take this class if I do not have my own firearm?

No

Do I need a holster for this class?

Yes, you will need a holster for the firearm that you will be using to qualify with. You will also need a sturdy belt that will hold you holster and firearm.

I have prescription eye glasses, do I need safety glasses?

Prescription eye glasses are sufficient; however, we do recommend safety glasses as well.

Do you offer any discounts for veterans?

No, we do not offer discounts on this class.

When do I apply to renew my IL permit?

The IL State Police will send you a letter letting you know that you need to renew. Once you receive the letter,  you can then apply to renew your permit if you have taken and passed this class (and if your permit is valid).

Where does the shooting qualification take place?

The shooting qualification will take place at an outdoor range 10-15 mins north of Red Dot Arms.

Is this class good towards concealed carry permits in other states?

No, this class only applies to renewing your IL Concealed Carry Permit. This class is for IL residents only.

FOID Statement: Illinois residents that will be TRANSPORTING their own firearm to and from the class/range must be in possession of a valid FOID/CCL card, and be of legal age, 21 for handguns, and 18 for long guns.  A FOID card is not required to participate in the class. Out of state residents need to follow the age requirements and have a valid ID.
