NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting is designed to teach how to shoot shotguns at moving targets.

Full Description: Students will learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination and will receive a class completion certificate.

Things that you should bring to the class!

  • Shotguns and ammo will be provided but you are more than welcome to bring your own shotgun(s).

  • Eye & Ear Protection
  • Baseball Cap
  • Shirt that can be buttoned or tight at the neck.  (long sleeves are recommended)

  • Rain Gear/Sunscreen/Bugspray (when needed)

  • Seasonal clothing as needed.  Dress for the weather.  Shooting portion of class takes place OUTSIDE.

  • Folding chair for range while waiting to shoot

Can I bring my own shotgun to class?

Yes, please bring your own shotgun if you have one. It is OK to bring more than one gun.

Do I need to bring ammunition?

No, we will provide ammo for you if you bring your own shotgun.

I have never fired a shotgun. Can I attend this class?

Yes, you may attend this class; however, if you are new to shotguns you may benefit from the NRA FIRST Steps Shotgun Class.

I do not own a shotgun. Can I still attend this class?

Yes. We will have a variety of shotguns for you to try. Ammo and shotguns are included in this class

Disclaimer:

FOID Statement: Illinois residents that will be TRANSPORTING their own firearm to and from the class/range must be in possession of a valid FOID/CCL card, and be of legal age, 21 for handguns, and 18 for long guns.  A FOID card is not required to participate in the class. Out of state residents need to follow the age requirements and have a valid ID.
