CHICAGO — Chicago police have confirmed 109 people were shot, 19 fatally, across the city over the Fourth of July weekend.

The shootings occurred over the extended holiday between midnight July 3 and midnight Sunday.

Chicago police Supt. Larry Snelling and Mayor Brandon Johnson addressed the holiday weekend violence Monday morning, which has surpassed last year’s numbers.
