The NRA Chief Range Safety Officer (CRSO) Course prepares experienced NRA Range Safety Officers to teach and certify NRA Range Safety Officers and to develop and supervise safe range operations and training programs.

Full Description: The NRA Chief Range Safety Officer (CRSO) Course is designed for experienced NRA Certified Range Safety Officers who are ready to take the next step into range leadership, instruction, and program development.

Chief Range Safety Officers are responsible for conducting NRA Range Safety Officer courses, mentoring new RSOs, and helping establish and maintain safe range procedures and operational standards.

Topics covered include:

  • Teaching and certifying NRA Range Safety Officers
  • Developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Conducting range inspections and safety evaluations
  • Emergency procedures and incident management
  • Firearm stoppages and malfunction procedures
  • Managing live-fire range operations
  • Leading safety briefings and supervising RSOs
  • Instructional methods and course presentation skills

Students will participate in practical exercises, instructor development activities, and course presentation exercises designed to prepare them to confidently teach NRA RSO courses and support safe range operations.

Prerequisite: Must be a current NRA Certified Range Safety Officer.

Any age may attend, but those under 21 must be accompanied by participating parent or guardian.  Student under 21 will not be able to get their certifcate until their 21st birthday.  We recommend prospective students under 21 years of age please contact us at training@rdarms.com

Although there are no official prerequisites for this class, this is a more advanced class most suited to seasoned and experienced shooting sports enthusiasts. Prospective students should be familiar with the basic rules of firearms and range safety, and have a working knowledge of handguns, rifles, shotguns and ammunition.

  • A notebook and pens, a laptop or tablet for taking notes.
  • Eye protection
  • Ear protection
  • No firearms or ammunition will be needed.
  • Concealed carry holders may wear their carry gun, please keep it concealed!
  • Hat with a brim (ball cap).
  • Weather appropriate clothing and footwear.
  • Bring your own lunch & snacks

I am a new shooter, would this be a good class for me to take?

No, this class is most suited for people with a good level of firearms use and range experience.

Is there any shooting involved in this class?

No, you will not be doing any shooting, but may observe others shooting at the range

Do I need to bring a firearm and ammunition to this class?

No firearm or ammunition will be necessary.

Do I need a prior certification to join this class?

No prior certification is necessary; however, a thorough understanding of firearms and firearm safety is preferred.

I am not yet 21 years of age, may I participate in this class?

Yes you may participate in the class: however, you will not be able to receive your certificate until your 21st birthday.
