Multiple schools were placed on lockdown after gunmen fired shots down the street from Edith Smith Middle School in Waukegan Friday morning, officials said.

The Waukegan Police Department responded around 8:05 a.m. Friday to the 800 block of New York Street for a report of a shooting.
