In Gainesville, Ga., the morning of Oct. 17, 2022, officers received a call that a man armed with knives was damaging cars and threatening people in a neighborhood. Medical personnel were at the scene tending to one person’s injuries when the assailant reportedly began attacking them. An armed citizen witnessed this attack and shot the perpetrator. Police charged the suspect with criminal attempt to commit murder, two counts of obstruction of an EMT, possession of a gun during the commission of a crime, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and aggravated assault. Police did not release the identity of the armed citizen. “They’re very brave for doing that. It takes a lot to take that on yourself,” said one neighbor. “I’m thankful they did it for the safety of others.”
