A Lake Villa man is in custody after authorities say he opened fire on a person in a vehicle and then shot multiple responding police cars in McHenry before trying to break into nearby homes.

The McHenry Police Department responded around 12:50 a.m. Friday to the 3000 block of Charlotte Avenue in McHenry for a report of a domestic disturbance and gunshots fired.
