FBI investigating after letter with white powder found at Benton church with ties to Speaker Mike Johnson

BOSSIER PARISH, La. (KSLA) – The FBI is investigating after a suspicious letter was found on Monday, Feb. 19 at Cypress Baptist Church in Benton.

This church is listed as the business address for Onward Christian Counseling Services, which is owned by Kelly Johnson. Kelly is the wife of Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, who is from northwest Louisiana.

Deputies with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office first responded to the scene, with Louisiana State Police taking over the investigation before then turning it over to the FBI.

According to the FBI, the letter contained a white powder. They say field tests conducted on the powder came back negative, but more testing will be performed at a local lab.
