Bizarre details are slowly trickling out of an investigation into six people found dead in a remote part of the California desert.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s spokesperson Mara Rodriguez told reporters that police were initially called at about 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday for a wellness check to an area off of Highway 395. They initially found five people dead and then discovered a sixth person by morning.
