The NRA states that “Only those candidates who achieve satisfactory scores in the Pre-Course Qualification and who meet other specified requirements for NRA instructors are eligible for certification.” All NRA instructor training is a two-part course consisting of two classes. The NRA Basic Instructor Training Class is the first part of the course and is Lessons I-V. Accreditation:Â Red Dot Arms provides comprehensive training classes with Certified NRA Training Counselors. This class is NRA Certified and meets all NRA firearms safety guidelines.
Cost: $300
Class payment is due in full and is non-refundable, but transferable.
Length: 11 Hours
This class consists of 11 hours of classroom instruction.
Prerequisites: 2 Classes
Student must have attended both classes listed under the Prerequisites Tab.

To teach students to become a certified NRA Shotgun Instructor.

Meet the following age requirements:
- Certified instructor: 21 years of age or older
- Assistant instructor: 18 years of age or older
- Apprentice instructor: 13-17 years of age
Receive a passing grade on the NRA Trainer’s Examination and appropriate instructor certification examination:
- Certified: 90 percent or higher
- Assistant: 85 percent or higher
- Apprentice: 85 percent or higher

Do I need a F.O.I.D Card?
No, Red Dot Arms Training Academy does not require a F.O.I.D card to attend. Illinois residents should apply for their F.O.I.D. if they are planning to purchase, possess or transport their own firearms.
Do I need to take the NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT)
An NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) class has to be taken in prior 2 years to take the NRA Instructor Shotgun Shooting Course.
Why do the lessons start at lesson VI?
The NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) are the first V lessons.
Is the cost of the NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) included?
Yes, there is no extra charge for NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) when registering for this class.
Do I have to be a member of the NRA to take this class?
It is highly recommended that you are or become a member of the NRA. This will condense all of your instructor credentials under one NRA number. Join Here
