NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home is designed to teach law-abiding adult citizens that would like to learn firearm skills to protect themselves and their families in the home.
Full Description: Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and how to respond to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. This is an eight-hour class. Students should expect to shoot at least 150-200 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn how to use cover and concealment in the shooting drills. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet and class completion certificate.

Accreditation: Red Dot Arms provides comprehensive training classes with Certified NRA Training Counselors. This class is NRA Certified and meets all NRA firearms safety guidelines.
Cost: $275
Class payment is due in full and is non-refundable, but transferable.

This class consists of 5 hours of classroom instruction and 2-3 hours of range time.
Prerequisites: 2 Classes
Student must have attended both classes listed under the Prerequisites Tab.
To teach students the basic knowledge, skills and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a firearm for protection of self and family and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.
Meet the following age requirements:
- Certified Instructor: 21 years of age or older
- Assistant Instructor: 18 years of age or older
- Apprentice Instructor: 13-17 years of age
Receive a passing grade on the NRA Trainer’s Examination and appropriate instructor certification examination:
- Certified: 90 percent or higher
- Assistant: 85 percent or higher
- Apprentice: 85 percent or higher

Prerequisites for this class include the NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) and the NRA Personal Protection In The Home. The BIT class must have been taken within the last 24 months Mouseover the box for more info!

Is this a defensive shooting class?
Yes
Is this class mandated for a CCL permit?
No, but it will actually teach you to defend yourself with a handgun.
Can we bring our own firearms?
Yes, please bring your firearm both to the classroom potion and range portion of the class.
Do I need to bring my own ammo?
Yes, please bring ammo to the range portion of class only. No live ammo is permitted in the classroom.
Can I rent a firearm for this class?
This is an advanced class, and we expect the student to be very proficient with his/her firearm. Thus, rentals are not available for this class.
Do you need a holster for the Basic Personal Protection in the Home Class?
No, shooting from a holster is taught in the Basic Personal Protection Outside the Home Class. We will NOT be drawing from a holster in this class.
Does this class provide shooting on the move?
Yes, the class teaches shooting while moving.
Is there shooting from cover and concealment in this class?
Yes
Can I bring a shotgun or carbine to this class?
No, this is a handgun class; however, many of the techniques learned in this class will certainly apply to using a shotgun or carbine in the home.
I already have my Illinois concealed carry permit. May I take this class?
Yes.
